Skanda is the guardian of Buddhist monasteries, his vajra staff turning away all evil. Legend says the staff even served as a signpost for wandering monks — carried on the shoulder, it meant travelers were welcome to stay. This gentle-browed Skanda shows what protection looks like when it is also compassion.
