Hetian jade is nephrite: not one crystal but a felt of microscopic amphibole fibers locked into each other, which is why jade takes a knock that would chip a gemstone. Its colours here — white, celadon, russet, black — come from trace elements. Her flower is the white magnolia, the tree that flowers on bare wood before its leaves arrive.
